tBM SOUTH TEXAS

San Antonio, Texas

Responding to disasters requires forethought, organization, and a team of volunteers already trained to help. This is the work of TBM, commonly known as Texans Baptist Men, a Dallas-based organization that has seen a growing demand for their work in South Texas.

On San Antonio’s south side, the organization needed a facility with as much flexibility and foresight as the people who run it. Card and Company was called on to design this warehouse and training hub, one that will accommodate the delivery and assembly of a changing scope of materials when they’re critically needed. Durability of the finishes and clarity of operations are critical.

But, above all, the building must be an environment where disparate volunteers want to come together, form trusted bonds, and cooperate around their shared goal. Along the durable tilt-wall perimeter, dense landscape intertwines with a welcoming porch and vine trellis. After a day or so of hard work, this shady enclave of community tables offers a final stop to bond over their mission. With this crucial, community-building component in mind, we designed a complex that is one part clubhouse and one part warehouse, with resilient details to weather the challenges ahead.
