Uvalde, Texas

When the Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas (CBCST) needed a headquarters in San Antonio, Jonathan Card, prior to Card and Company, was privileged to lead the design. This experience let Jonathan see the center’s thoughtful methods for counseling children and their supporting adults through the grieving process, and learn what CBCST needs in a facility to keep those families front and center.

Years later, after the tragic mass shooting at Robb Elementary, CBCST needed a permanent home in Uvalde, Texas. Card and Company offered immediate pro bono services so the center could focus on the community, while a local developer secured an existing building, critically located in the downtown community.

There our team translated the San Antonio headquarters’ design of a welcoming living room, areas for art and play therapy, and counseling rooms leading to a private courtyard. New awnings, a bright storefront, and vibrant landscape announce CBCST’s healing presence in the community.

Our schematic design informed construction budgeting and an expedited construction schedule. Ford Powell Carson Architects graciously agreed to see the project through to completion. We are humbled to play a small part in helping our neighbors in Uvalde and the important work CBCST is doing there.
